Do pregnant women who exercise have children that are more likely to do so? A recent study suggests this is the case!

pregnancy exercise

Studies in the past have suggested that women who exercise while pregnant have children that are more prone to exercise when they become adults. It was believed that these studies could be strongly related to a mothers influence on her children post birth.

However, in a recent study conducted by Prof. Robert A Waterland of Baylor and Texas Children’s Hospital, is published in The FASEB Journal, it shows that mice who exercised regularly while pregnant had offspring who did the same. In fact, the study concluded that mice that were born to mothers who were physically active during pregnancy proved to be 50% more active than offspring who were born to mothers who did not exercise.

Can your partners caffeine consumption lead to miscarriages?

In a very interesting new study, published online last week in the journal Fertility and Sterility, found that not only women who consumed more caffeine, but also their partners (men) who did, had a higher chance of miscarriage in the first trimester. For those whose partner drank more than three caffeinated drinks per day, their chance of miscarriage increased. The study was conducted on a controlled group of 344 heterosexual couples who were followed several weeks before and after they became pregnant.

Although the study concluded that higher miscarriages were reported for those who consumed more caffeinated drinks, it cannot conclusively prove that one leads to the other.

Inducing Labor May Not Boost C-Section Risk

Pregnant woman

Contrary to what was previously believed, labors that are induced in older women after 39 weeks does not increase the chance of C-Sections. A British study conducted at the University of Nottingham included 619 women over the age of 34, having their first baby. Half of the study participants were randomly assigned to have their labor induced at 39 weeks. They found that the women induced had no greater increase in C-sections than those not induced. They also concluded that induction showed no difference in health in moms and newborns.

Do your cosmetic and personal care products contain phthalates?

If so, you should be concerned, especially if pregnant because safe pregnancy skin care is extremely important.

Phthalates are found in a significant amount of everyday products. Common items like toys, electronics, fragrances and lotions. Phthalate’s have been linked to a host of health issues such as – breast cancer, asthma, obesity, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, behavioral issues, neurodevelopment issues and many more.

Because of the CDC’s warning of phthalates it required the Consumer Product Safety Commission to take a closer look which lead to the report on phthalates – the Chronic Hazard Advisory Panel on Phthalates or CHAP which was finalized in 2014.

“The Chap report is the first major regulatory document in the federal government that’s highlighting the extent of the new science on the risks of phthalates,” says Erik Olson, senior strategic director of food and agriculture and health programs for the Natural Resources Defense Council. “The fact that the commission is looking both at phthalates as a group and at the toxicology of individual phthalates is really important,” he says.

Phthalates can be absorbed, digested and inhaled. It can even be passed from mother to unborn child because they can cross the placenta. Mothers can also pass on phthalates to their newborn via breast milk.

It is very important to pay attention to the products your using now during pregnancy. All Pretty Mommies products are phthalate free and free of many other harmful chemicals. In addition, we are also Gluten Free, Estrogenic Activity Free, Vegan and made in the USA. WE are the #1 recommend maternity skin care line.

Chocolate During Pregnancy – Good for Mom, Baby AND Your Skin!

Chocolate during pregnancy

Too good to be true… a bit of chocolate may be good during pregnancy for mom and baby?

For all of you chocolate lovers that are pregnant, this new study might make you very happy! According to HealthDay News – pregnant women who indulge in a small bit of chocolate each day can improve the circulatory health of their unborn child and may also reduce the risk of preeclampsia.

Researchers attribute this due to the flavanols found in chocolate that contain many health benefits. “Our observations suggest that a regular small consumption of dark chocolate — whether or not the level of flavanol is high — from the first trimester of pregnancy, could lead to an improvement of placental function,” said study author Dr. Emmanuel Bujold. He is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Universite Laval in Quebec City, Canada.

As if this news wasn’t amazing enough, because it is, there’s more. Flavanols (flavonoids) found in chocolate are also great for the skin! This antioxidant helps with cancer and inflammation.

So soon to be mommies make sure you get your daily dose of chocolate. Chocolate is great for pregnant skin and you and your baby’s health!

Another Amazing Review!

Real Moms Real ViewsI went in for a facial at the beginning of my pregnancy. When the esthetician asked what I wanted to achieve I told her, “I want to look like I have that great pregnancy glow instead of this gross dull winter skin.” Ever since getting pregnant I have been CRAVING that glowing mommy skin. I am breaking out, drying up, and just looking gross and tired. This is far from glowing.

Aren’t these women just glowing? They allude “mommy glow”. This is what I was searching for am Pretty Mommies made it happen for me! Pretty Mommies is a line of pregnancy-safe products designed just for mommies and their changing skin. They created products make that you look good, smell good, and work great! These all-natural products are the #1 physician recommended maternity skin care line.

Pretty Mommies sent me their Three-Step System to put to the test. I took their 10 day challenge to see if these products could change my skin and give me the pregnancy glow I was searching for. This system is fast and easy to use. There isn’t any sitting around and waiting for a mask to set. Get in the bathroom, wash that face, and get out!

Step 1 is the Let’s Be Clear. Let’s Be Clear is a gentle facial cleanser that not only cleans but lightly exfoliates. It is designed to give you “smooth, blemish-free skin that glows with an improved overall clarity, texture and tone.” With just a couple pumps my face was cleaned. It lathers but not like soap, keeping bubbles and foam out of your eyes and up your nose. It has a nice subtle fragrance. I used this morning and night.

Step 2 is the Truth Be Told. Truth Be Told is a skin brightener. It is designed to provide skin with high levels of antioxidants and anti-aging properties. It leaves the skin bright and hydrated while at the same time calming inflammation and helping you fight acne and blemishes with it’s natural anti-bacterial ingredients. Soft, bright, clear, young skin….YES PLEASE! This is applied just after washing with the Let’s Be Clear. I lightly patted my face dry and then applied the Truth Be Told morning and night.

Step 3 is the Protect and Reflect. Protect and Reflect is a daily use sunscreen. Not only does this product provide protect from harmful sun rays but it prevents hyperpigmentation and melasma from worsening. It gets better though! You can use it as a makeup primer!! It fills in fine lines, wrinkles and pores without clogging them giving you flawless looking skin. I will take that too.

Take a look at my before and afters. You can see how much my skin has cleared up, pores are smaller, and skin is brighter and hydrated. Look at how the darkness under my eyes have lightened up. Look how the patches of dry skin on the side of my nose and chin are gone. Look at pores on my nose…smaller and less blackheads. Look I am even glowing a little bit!

I LOVE Pretty Mommies! I love the results I have gotten, the clearer skin, and the smaller pores. Some days I do need just a little extra moisture so I will put on some virgin coconut oil as suggested by Pretty Mommies President and Founder, Gina Zeiger. I am telling you, this system ROCKS!

Pretty Mommies is Real Mom recommended!
